FAQs
Sales
- Q) We had planned to go boat shopping today, but it's raining. Do you have any boats displayed inside?
- A) Yes, here in Florida rain and heat are often a fact of life. But boat shopping should be something you do in comfort, and without feeling you need to rush back to the comfort of the A/C in your car. Marine Connection has a 5000 square foot Air Conditioned showroom. Sixteen of our most popular models are displayed inside, with another eight displayed fully under the showroom entrance awning. Our family friendly showroom allows you to spend time comparing the different models and features available in comfort. Choosing a boat is a big decision, you should be comfortable taking all the time you need.
- Q) Do you take trades? How about something other than a boat? My wife says my Harley has to go before I can buy the new boat.
- A) Sure, we take trades. Obviously most are boats, but you would be surprised what else we have taken. Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles, Waverunners, Motorhomes, Campers. We can convert your old toys to new ones. Click on our contact page to discuss your trade with one of our sales professionals. (Sorry, as much as you may want to some days, we cannot take children on trade. They are just too difficult to title and register)
- Q) What do terms like Beam, Draft & Centerline mean?
- A) Just like golf, boating sometimes seems like it has its own language. For ye landlubbers, here's a quick course in boat speak:
Port - a direction known on land as Left.
Starboard - the opposite of port, this would be to the right.
Length Over All (L.O.A.) - The distance along the centerline from the tip of the Bow, to the aft-most part of the hull.
Beam - The width of the boat at its widest point.
Draft - The number of inches the boat and/or motor/drive unit reach below the surface of the water. This is the depth of the water you need remain afloat without hitting bottom and possibly causing damage. This number is usually quoted two ways, engine up, and engine down.
Depth - The vertical distance from the lowest point of the keel to the highest point of the boat. (excluding windshields, lights and other removable componenets)
Bridge Height - This is the height in inches from the waterline, to the highest point on the boat. This is the distance you would need to clear a bridge while afloat.
Trailering Height - This is the height from the ground to the highest point on the boat. This would be the distance you would need to see if the boat/trailer would clear your garage door.
Transom Deadrise - The angle of the hull at the transom, as measured in degrees, The higher the number (e.g. 21 degrees) the more pronounced the angle of the hull's V.
